Baseball Hitting Instruction

Baseball Hitter HittingPlay baseball? Play better. Ted Williams said it best: Hitting a baseball is the single most difficult act in sports because you have a round ball and a round bat, and the object is to hit it square. Most hitting coaches would probably agree that teaching baseball hitting or providing hitting lessons is also one of the most challenging aspects of the game because there are so many different theories and training methods on how to hit a baseball the right way.

Yet every great baseball hitter shares something in common: Those who are consistently at the top of their game are those who know how to prepare and how to refine their baseball hitting skills in practice. That way, when game day arrives the responses are conditioned so thoroughly that your baseball swing becomes a "natural" reflex. When you reach this point, you will be successful.

Baseball Hitting Fundamentals

A baseball hitter’s strength comes from a solid foundation. These articles can help you establish the core fundamentals of hitting that a player must have in order to become a great hitter. We address hitting basics and practice tips for improvement.

Baseball Hitting Mechanics

If you have good eyes and strong hands and you hit from a position at the top of your strike zone, then you can be a good hitter. You will analyze the pitch first and you won’t lose any time bringing the bat to the connect position.

While you’re in the batter’s box, eliminate all thoughts from your mind except following the ball. Stand anywhere you want so long as it is comfortable. Hold the bat any way you want so long as it is comfortable. Don’t worry whether your knuckles are lined up right or whether your feet are spread far enough apart or if your hips look good or if your shoulders are opened up enough. By the time the ball reaches the plate, you’ll be thinking so much you won’t be able to concentrate on actually hitting. The most important thing you as a batter can do is concentrate on the ball coming in.

When the ball is pitched, get your hands out in front of you as fast as you can, take a short swing and a short stride, and after you make contact with the ball, turn your wrists over for added power.

Fundamental skills for hitters of all ages.

Baseball Swing Training

Looking for a baseball swing trainer? It’s important to remember that the speed of the bat is more important than weight of the bat or any other aspect of hitting. A baseball hitter must be able to generate a quick bat speed in order to be an effective hitter, to hit for power or average. The articles here address development of bat speed, bat control and your overall baseball swing so you can start hitting like a pro.

Rotational Hitting

The powerful swing of rotational hitting is explained in easy to remember steps.

Linear Hitting

Here’s a closer look at linear hitting mechanics and the pro’s and con’s of using a linear swing when batting.

Mental Side Of Hitting

To be a proficient hitter, there are certain skills that you’re going to have to master even before you go up to the plate. Some of those things involve self-awareness, that is, understanding who you are and how you tick, and mental toughness or your ability to overcome fear and adversity. Since so much of hitting is mental, the hitter who knows himself well has a great advantage over a player who exaggerates or minimizes his personal strengths because he lacks the mental capacity to perform under pressure.

Do you have what it takes to become a better hitter? No matter what style of hitting you use, our free instructional resources coupled with hard work and practice can help you improve your baseball hitting skills.
